How it works
- When you visit a website, Toucan automatically translates certain words and phrases on the page into the language you’re trying to learn. That way, you can learn words in your new language within the context of a language you’re already comfortable with.

When you add Toucan, it says that we can “read and change all your data on the websites you visit.” That’s only partially true. A more accurate description is that it allows Toucan to translate the words you see on a webpage into the language you’re trying to learn. While we’re sure you’re a super interesting person, we do not have any interest in tracking what you search for or what you buy. It’s just not our thing.

Toucans have massive beaks. In fact, they make up almost half of some toucans’ bodies. But scientists aren’t really sure what they’re for. Well, it turns out, they’re perfectly designed for squashing bugs. So we unleashed a whole flock on the code in today’s release to make it especially clean … unlike our office.

In this release, we removed our Fluency Check feature, so you won't need to take a quiz to show you know a word anymore. We could write a whole paper on the science behind why we removed them, but the simplest, most honest explanation is that we just really don't like tests.
